Recently I attended the Louis Vuitton “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” exhibition in NYC. The exhibit really gave me a new sense for the brand’s place in the world, as I assume was the exhibit’s purpose, as brands today aim to capitalize on their heritage and craftsmanship over innovation or dilution. No upstart can compete with a 150 year history (though Madewell and Shinola certainly try, more on them in another post soon). The exhibit also showed me how little the Louis Vuitton product offering has changed in the last century -- only really offering collaborations to shake up the product set. Taking the guided tour through the exhibit also offered some nice tidbits about the company’s history.
